About Dr. Hoang

Huy Quang Hoang, MD, is a native of Vietnam and graduated from the University of Maryland. He moved to southern California to study internal medicine and then acupuncture at UCLA. He has worked at prestigious hospitals such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and he is now medical director of Natural Health Medical Center in Lawndale, CA.

Dr. Hoang practices conventional Western as well as natural medicine. He believes that each has its own benefits. Together, they can provide the best possible health care for many patients although he leans towards natural medicine whenever possible. He looks at the ideal role of medicine as being preventive, not curative. When the body has an ailment, Dr. Hoang applies medicine to support the body’s natural healing processes. He sees total health as being not just physical, but a combination of body, mind, and spirit. His practice is centered on the patients, not their medical conditions. Dr. Hoang promises to look for the best treatment for each individual patient. In turn, he encourages patients to take responsibility for their own health.

Dr. Hoang's Philosophy of Health

My philosophy of health is based upon the following principles:

  • Health is an integration of body, mind, and spirit.
  • The focus is on the patient who has the disease and not the disease the patient has.
  • The best medicine is preventive medicine
  • Do no harm.
  • Text Medicine should be as natural as possible. Drugs and surgery are for emergency only.
  • The doctor only gives recommendations and the patient is the ultimately responsible for his/her own health.

Appreciation and Respect for Life and Freedom: a Personal Story

Dr. Hoang's family journey has inspired how he looks at life.

Dr. Hoang was born in Vietnam in 1962. In 1975, Communist North Vietnam took over South Vietnam. Government control reigned. People needed to ask permission to do anything as personal as selling their houses or getting a loan from the bank. The government accused dissenters of being traitors. Within 11 months of the takeover, Dr. Hoang’s family decided to flee Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon.

His father writes of a brutal ocean trip in a small boat containing 13 people. The waves were enough to cause seasickness among all but the most experienced, but the fear was worst. The boat’s occupants knew they would be permanently stuck in Vietnam, sentenced to time in labor camps, if they were caught. After stops in Singapore and Malaysia, Dr. Hoang’s father eventually arrived in the U.S. six months after escaping from Vietnam.

Dr. Hoang’s family history has given him an appreciation for life and health. He wants to use his life to help others, and he celebrates the freedom he has in his own life to do as he wishes. His parents’ story and what they sacrificed for him motivates him to do his best for others.
